Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve got questions, we’ve got Answers

What is the difference between an RDN, nutritionist, and health coach?

RDN stands for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. An RDN is a healthcare provider who has completed a bachelor's degree or master's degree, as well as a nine-month internship, in the field of nutrition. RDNs take an oath and are required to complete 75 hours of continuing education and ethics review every 5 years.

Nutritionist- Range of education and experience varies widely, as there are no national standards.  A nutritionist’s education and training can range from six-week online courses to those with master's or PhD degrees in the field of nutrition, and may or may not require clinical training.

Health coach- Range of education and experience varies widely, as there are no national standards. Health coaching is designed to help with behavioral changes to support health goals. A health coach’s training can range from short online courses to accredited programs.

I have seen an RDN in the past, and it did not work. How can we help?

Every registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) brings a different approach. At Genomic Led Nutrition, we expect active participation from our clients, as meaningful health changes require time and commitment. Above all, we believe a supportive, honest relationship between client and provider is essential for success.

We go beyond standard RDN training with a thorough intake process that explores a wide range of health factors. This deep dive allows us to uncover hidden influences, such as past injuries or life experiences, that often contribute to your health concerns. Instead of focusing solely on surface-level symptoms, we work to identify the root cause of the issue.

We also understand that personality and fit matter. That’s why we offer a free 15-minute consultation to ensure our approach is the right match for you before scheduling a full session. Your health is our top priority, whether you choose to work with us or another provider.

Additionally, coordinated care is a key part of our practice. We collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including other RDNs. If you prefer, we can order, review, and interpret genomic and micronutrient testing to complement the care you’re already receiving.

Why work with GLN

In today’s world, we’re constantly bombarded with the latest supplement, diet hack, or quick-fix medication. But if those worked — really worked — you probably wouldn’t be here reading this.

The truth is: real change takes time. It takes effort, support, and a willingness to look deeper — beyond the next trend or shortcut.

At Genomic Led Nutrition, we understand that making changes to your health can feel overwhelming. The fear of failing, of being judged, or of not doing it “perfectly” can hold you back. That’s why we do things differently.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We use your unique genomics, health history, and lifestyle to build a personalized plan that meets you where you are. No shame. No pressure. Just real, supportive guidance.

Our role is to listen, advise, and walk alongside you. Together, we’ll troubleshoot what has — and hasn’t — worked for you in the past, and make small, sustainable changes that build over time.

This isn’t about restriction or perfection. It’s about collaboration, curiosity, and creating a path to better health that actually fits your life.

Can GLN help with weight loss?

Weight loss isn’t just about quick-fix diets or temporary solutions. It’s a complex process influenced by your unique genetics, diet, lifestyle, and even emotions.

At Genomic Led Nutrition, we take a holistic approach,— focusing on uncovering the root causes behind your health challenges. Weight management is addressed as part of this bigger picture, tailored specifically to your individual needs.

Our goal is to support lasting, sustainable changes that improve your overall health, — not just the number on the scale.

I am on a GLP-1, do I need help from an RDN?

GLP-1 medications are a newer and effective tool for weight loss and blood sugar management. For some individuals, certain genetic variations (SNPs) can make losing weight through diet and exercise more challenging, and GLP-1s can be especially helpful in these cases.

However, when you reduce calorie intake, it can affect the balance of micronutrients and macronutrients your body needs for essential biological functions. Changes in hydration and loss of lean muscle mass can also impact your overall health, longevity, and quality of life.

Working with an RDN can help you:

  • Optimize your nutrition to support your body’s needs during weight loss

  • Maintain muscle mass and proper hydration

  • Tailor your diet, exercise, and lifestyle for sustainable, long-term health — not just short-term results

  • Prepare for life beyond GLP-1 medication with a personalized, balanced plan

An RDN ensures you’re not only losing weight but doing so in a way that supports your overall well-being.

How Does Pricing work?

Do I have to buy a package?
No, you’re welcome to book single sessions a la carte if that suits your needs. However, our packages are thoughtfully designed to support you through a series of appointments — helping you make small, achievable changes that add up to lasting, meaningful results.

Does GLN offer a payment plan?
Yes! We offer flexible payment plans to make our services more accessible. Please contact us to learn more about the available options and find a plan that works for you.

What Is A SuperBill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt we can provide for your sessions. It includes the medical and billing codes health insurance companies require for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

While a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement, many clients are able to submit it to their insurance provider for partial coverage — depending on your individual plan, deductible, and out-of-network benefits.

If you're planning to seek reimbursement, we recommend calling your insurance company in advance to ask:

  • Do you cover out-of-network nutrition services?

  • What percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?

  • Is there a deductible I must meet first?

We’re happy to generate and send superbills upon request to support your reimbursement process.

.

Every question is a step toward clarity. Every step brings you closer to the change you’re ready for.

Does GLN take insurance?

At Genomic Led Nutrition (GLN), we are committed to providing the highest level of personalized care,- without compromise. To uphold this standard, we decided to move away from insurance billing.

We found that working within the insurance model often meant shorter appointments and a higher volume of clients, which limited our ability to deliver the depth of care each person deserves. This approach runs counter to our mission: to offer science-based, genomically guided nutrition and wellness plans tailored to you.

By operating outside of insurance networks, we can focus entirely on your health — taking the time needed to truly understand your unique genetic makeup, lifestyle, and goals.

We’re happy to provide a detailed invoice (superbill) upon request, which you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) can often be used toward our services as well.

If you have questions about payment options or reimbursement, we’re here to help.

Are labs covered by insurance?

At Genomic Led Nutrition, we focus on uncovering the root causes of your health concerns through advanced, functional testing,- not just treating symptoms.

The specialized labs we use — including cardiovascular panels, hormone testing, micronutrient analysis, organic acids, food sensitivity tests, and others — are designed to give deeper insight into your body’s unique biology. Because many of these tests are still considered "experimental" by insurance providers, they are typically not covered.

We understand this can be frustrating, especially if you've already tried the conventional route with limited results. That’s why we partner with trusted laboratories to offer discounted cash-pay rates, making these cutting-edge tools more accessible. A small review fee is also applied for our personalized analysis and interpretation of your results.

If you’re coming to us, it’s likely because you’re ready for real answers,- not more guesswork. Our goal is to help you get there, with labs that actually move the needle on your health.

Why does GLN order labs?

At Genomic Led Nutrition, lab testing is a key part of how we personalize your care.

We order advanced functional medicine labs based on a comprehensive view of your genetic profile, symptoms, health history, and goals. These tests help us uncover what’s happening beneath the surface — so we can support your body more precisely and effectively.

Everything we recommend is viewed through the lens of nutrition and lifestyle optimization. Our goal isn’t just to identify imbalances, but to help you correct them through targeted, sustainable changes — not prescriptions or one-size-fits-all solutions.

As registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs), we do not diagnose medical conditions. That’s why we collaborate with functional medicine physicians and other healthcare partners who share our values and can support your care when a medical diagnosis or intervention is needed.

This integrative, genomically informed approach helps us get to the root of your concerns — and guide you toward lasting wellness.

How many appointments do I need?

Your journey with Genomic Led Nutrition is personalized, but here’s what a typical plan looks like:

  • Initial Session (90 minutes): We begin with a deep dive into your health history, genetic background, lifestyle, and goals. This comprehensive intake sets the foundation for your personalized plan.

  • Follow-Up Sessions (60 minutes): We typically meet every 2–3 weeks for 4 to 6 sessions to review lab results, implement changes, and make adjustments. This phase is focused on building momentum and creating sustainable shifts.

  • Ongoing Support (30 minutes): Once you're in a good flow, we reduce the frequency to 30-minute check-ins every 2–3 months. These sessions help you stay on track, adjust to life changes, and maintain long-term progress.

Consistency is key in the early stages. Real transformation takes time, and regular support allows us to fine-tune your plan as your body responds. And if life throws you off track — don’t worry. We’re here to help you regroup and refocus when you need it.
